Have you ever heard about Sapporo Snow Festival?
This, one of the most famous winter events in Japan “Sapporo Snow Festival” is held in Sapporo, Hokkaido every February. It’s started in 1950 when high school students built a few snow statues in Odori Park. It has since developed into a large. This time will be 69th festival. It attracts a growing number of visitors from all over the world every year. Every winter, about two million people visit Sapporo to enjoy a lot of outstanding snow and ice sculptures lining Odori Park, Sapporo Community Dome “Tsudome”, and along the main street in Susukino. During the festival in February, Sapporo is changed to be a winter dreamland of crystal-like ice and white snow sculptures.

Odori Park, a huge park spreading east to west over 1.5km through the center of Sapporo city, is transformed into a fantasy of snow and ice. All the works of art, sculpted with pure white snow and beautiful clear ice, will certainly impart something of the artist’s passion. The splendid snow and ice sculptures are the biggest attractions of Sapporo Snow Festival.
Susukino Ice World
Illuminations turned off at 23:00.(On the last day, illuminations turned off at 22:00.)
The theme at this place is “Enjoy the Ice”, this site offers a fantastic ice sculptures. You can also visit the plaza, ‘Fureai Hiroba’ to touch or ride on the ice sculptures, take some memorable pictures in the Illumination Street, or have some hot drinks such as hot whisky, whisky soda at the Ice bar to keep warm. In fact, the ice bar is one of the most popular contents at Susukino Ice World.
Sapporo Community Dome “Tsu Dome”
Open from 9:00 to 17:00
Sapporo Community Dome, Tsudome is the second largest site of the Sapporo Snow Festival. This site includes very large snow slides and a snow rafting area outside the dome. Inside the dome, there are plenty of attractions for children and you can take a break time in the spacious rest area. This is a place that you really enjoy some interesting things of Hokkaido in winter.
Food Park – Sapporo Snow Festival
At the Sapporo Snow Festival, Odori Park Site, there are lots of food shops. So when you are hungry, you can try delicious Hokkaido foods at reasonable price!! For example, you can get Miso Ramen and Ikura and rice for 1,000 yen. Hokkaido is known as a “Gourmet Kingdom”, don’t miss the chance to experience the winter world and Hokkaido’s foods!
